What is the vehicle title scam?  It can happen when you’re selling a vehicle and the potential buyer asks you to produce a vehicle history report. The request, in itself, is not all together unusual, but the Better Business Bureau is getting reports that some unscrupulous individuals are tricking sellers into purchasing vehicle reports through scam websites.  According to the BBB, the scam websites have the potential to capture personal information and credit card information, leading the way to identity theft.

“This is a fairly new scam to rip off unsuspecting people selling their vehicles,” said CSLEA Foundation Chair Kenny Ehrman.  “If you are selling a vehicle, visit the BBB page that discusses this scam and follow the steps to finding a legitimate website that can provide the vehicle history information you need.  Do not use the site a potential buyer is suggesting, unless you check it out first.”
